Final-minute frenzy: Barnes buries winner

Gwen Barnes scored with 28 seconds remaining to defeat SUNY New Paltz 2‒1 for Rensselaer’s first win of the season. Veronica Martinez de Pinillos scored the Engineers’ opener off a cross from Mikayla Walsh and Rachel Borra set up Barnes’ winner.

Engineers undo Union in playoff opener

The Engineers defeated the Union Dutchwomen 8‒0 in five innings, the game having ended via mercy rule, for their first win in the Liberty League Softball Championship. Pitcher Erika Holowka earned the win after throwing four shutout innings with three strikeouts. Catcher Gabby Comeau led the Engineers at the plate with three RBIs.

Heron hammers Engineers

The Engineers took on the undefeated William Smith College. Despite the Engineers’ eight total saves and 12 turnovers, the Herons picked up another win against the Engineers with a final score of 17–7.

Marintchev cannons Engineers past Saints in doubleheader

Martin Marintchev drove in a third of the Engineers’ runs in the sweep over St. Lawrence, with 10‒7 and 5‒2 victories on Saturday. Rensselaer’s Andrew Gaughan and Ben Koomey each recorded wins in the two games.

The Engineers faced the Saint Lawrence Saints on Saturday, April 15. After the Engineers jumped out to a 10–6 lead early in the 3rd quarter, the Saints clawed their way back to tie the game with a minute left, before claiming a nail-biting 13–12 overtime win.

After defeating Skidmore and the first-seeded Ithaca Bombers to reach the Liberty League championship, the Engineers failed to score in overtime and gave the title to the St. Lawrence Saints in a 50‒42 defeat.

Engineers handle Herons, will host first round of playoffs

The Engineers defeated the William Smith Herons 46‒35 in their last game of the season to secure fourth place in the Liberty League. The Engineers now have home-court advantage in the first round of the playoffs against the St. Lawrence Saints on February 21. Brielle Sharry recorded a double-double in the victory, with Heather Converse and Nicole DaPra also grabbing double-digit rebounds.

Engineers split homestand, secure fourth seed

The Engineers split the weekend, winning against RIT before falling to the Hobart Statesmen. Finishing in fourth place in the Liberty League, they will face the Skidmore Thoroughbreds in the first round of the playoffs on February 21 at ECAV Arena.

Engineers grab Bulldogs by the collar in Freakout dogfight

The Engineers buried three goals past Yale in the first period en route to a 4‒2 victory in front of a frenzied Houston Field House for the 45th annual Big Red Freakout. Lauri Sertti led the way for Rensselaer with a goal and three assists, including both of Jakob Lee’s goals. RPI improves to 12‒17‒1 on the season and currently sits in ninth place in the ECAC, three points behind the Union Dutchmen.

The Engineers lost two home games against rivals Skidmore and Vassar over the weekend, dropping to 9-12 on the year and 6-8 in the the Liberty League.

Multi-man effort from Engineers seal deal in two-game home-stand

The Engineers looked to get back on track at home against Skidmore and Vassar after losing three out of their last four games on the road. They did just that with two consecutive victories, dismantling Skidmore 74-61 and Vassar 78-60, subsequently rising up the Liberty League standings to second place with a 9-5 league record.

Engineers retain Mayor’s Cup trophy after three-goal third period

The Engineers netted three third-period goals to defeat the Union Dutchwomen 3‒1 for their second consecutive Mayor’s Cup victory, remaining the reigning champions. Maddy Peterson buried two goals past the Union goaltender in her second game after returning from an injury earlier in the month; Maddy Papineau netted the Engineers’ go-ahead goal. Amanda Rampado made 22 saves on 23 shots in the victory.

Engineers slay Golden Knights in overtime duel

Max Smolinski scored an overtime winner to defeat the Clarkson Golden Knights 3‒2, snapping Rensselaer’s three-game losing streak. The Engineers also defeated the St. Lawrence Saints the following night with an overtime winner from Sutter Muzzatti to take a 4‒3 victory. RPI takes on Union in the Mayor’s Cup on January 28.

Engineers snatch three points against Saints

Meg Hildner and Ellie Kaiser scored goals in the third period to secure a vital 2‒0 victory over St. Lawrence. ECAC Goaltender of the Week Amanda Rampado racked up 78 saves in the two games over the weekend, conceding only two goals. Rensselaer still sits in ninth in the ECAC with the win bringing them to 9.5 points.

Engineers extend win streak to three games

The Engineers came out on top in their clashes against Liberty League opponents Clarkson and St. Lawrence, bringing their league record to 5‒2. Nicole DaPra and Brielle Sharry scored double-digit points in both games, with DaPra grabbing a double-double against Clarkson. Julia Rowe recorded a double-double in the win against St. Lawrence as well. Rensselaer sits in third place in the Liberty League behind undefeated Ithaca and Skidmore.
