Jam packed weekend

An annual toast to RPI’s friends and families

Hola, RPI!

I hope you’re doing well! Did you catch the first hints of snow on Sunday? Winter is right around the corner, so be sure you’re ready when it comes knocking. I believe it’s an El Nino year, so expect snow, and lots of it. I can’t wait to go sledding around Troy’s wonderful hills again, and enjoy a few winter camping trips if I’m lucky.

I want to take a moment to welcome our three new freshmen Executive Board Members: Matthew Rand ’19 has been appointed as the freshman class representative. Rand is involved in club lacrosse, Greek life, and the Design/Build/Fly club. He was involved in student government in high school, and is excited at the chance to get involved with the Executive Board.

Matthew Beaudoin ’19 has been selected as a discretionary member at large. Beaudoin is involved in the club Frisbee team “Trudge,” as well as Red Army and the American Institute of Chemical Engineers. Beaudoin was involved in various clubs in high school and even attended the New York State Council on Leadership and Student Activities conference for leadership. He is looking to grow his skills and give back to the greater RPI community through the Executive Board.

John Fantell ’19 has also been selected as a discretionary member at large. Fantell has been an instructor of Soo Bahk Do, a martial art, and he plans to continue his training as well as possibly learning a new form with one of the Rensselaer Union’s many martial arts clubs. He hopes to expand his experiences far beyond the classroom, and understand the workings of the campus.

I also hope you had a chance to find an E-Board representative yesterday during our Polo day, and ask them any questions you may have about the Union. If you have a question that went unanswered, or weren’t able to find a representative, please feel free to reach out to me at any time!

In other exciting news, this weekend is Family Weekend, and I hope you get the chance to see your family. Take the time to thank them for supporting you throughout the years and sending you to a school as great as RPI. Show them the awesome things you enjoy doing here! There are so many activities going on this weekend that everyone will be able to find something they like. Unfortunately, I don’t think I have the word count to be able to list them all, but you can check out a schedule of events here: http://http://poly.news/s/patzc/.

On Friday there will be tours and classroom seminars all around campus, as well as a haunted house hosted by Circle K over at the ’87 Gym! The RPI Players will be putting on A Gray Matter: a story of brains, clones, and being human. The Union Programs and Activities Committees Cinema will be playing Inside Out, and there’s even a ghost tour! On Saturday, there will be a pancake breakfast, Pumpkin Chunkin’, AcatoberFest, comedians, and more! And finally, on Sunday, I encourage you to come share in the 2015 Grand Marshall/President of the Union Brunch. Join myself, GM Marcus Flowers ’16, President Shirley Ann Jackson, her cabinet, and our families as we celebrate a successful weekend, and everything that makes Rensselaer great. Preregistration is required for this event, so be sure to sign up while you can!

I encourage you to take this opportunity to enjoy your time with family this weekend if you can. As always, let me know if you have any questions or need any help. Have a good one!
