Northern Lights hosts Maylene and the Sons of Disaster, Twelve Gauge Valentine, and Alesana at 6 pm. Tickets cost $13 in advance or $15 on the day of the show.
Capital Repertory Theatre showcases Arthur Miller’s The Crucible at 7:30 pm. The play is a satire of the McCarthy hearings of the 1950s and is set during the 17th century Salem witch trials.

Northern Lights presents Fallen Caste, Back Down From No One, Apathy Arising, Detective Blue, Cap Gun Roulette, The Unkempt Murder, and Beligerance at 7 pm. Tickets cost $5.
Bernice Lewis performs at Mother’s at 8 pm. Lewis is an important figure in the contemporary-folk genre, performing at major folk festivals as well as featuring in various radio stations. Admission is free for RPI students.
The Troy Savings Bank Music Hall hosts the Pat Martino Quartet at 8 pm. Martino was named Guitar Player of the Year in 2004. Tickets cost $25 for B seats or $28 for A seats.
WAMC showcases Lil’ Ed and The Blues Imperials at the Linda Norris Auditorium. Lil’ Ed Williams is a gifted guitarist specializing in slow blues. The event begins at 8 pm. Tickets cost $18.

Crash Romeo and Amber’s Diary perform at Northern Lights. Tickets cost $8 in advance or $10 on the day of the show. The event begins at 2 pm.
UPAC Comedy presents a stand up routine by Dwayne Perkins. The event begins in the McNeil Room at 8 pm. Admission is free.
Proctor’s Theatre showcases the comedic talent of Bill Engvall at 8 pm. Engvall has sold a number of his comedy album “Here’s Your Sign,” which caused his fame to skyrocket. Tickets for the event cost $39.50.
The Gibson Brothers perform at the Linda Norris Auditorium at 8 pm. The Brothers were awarded Emerging Artist of the Year by the International Bluegrass Music Association in 1998. Tickets cost $22.
The Troy Savings Bank Music Hall sponsors “The Goddess Concert (Return Engagement” at 8 pm. The show features Broadway stars Leona Mitchell, Terry Rakov, Sarah Rice, Hal Robinson, and Bill Lewis. Tickets cost $25 for students and seniors, and $30 for adults.

The Egg hosts The PickleShoes Dancers and Rob Kapilow in the performance of “Peter and the Wolf.” Kapilow will conduct the orchestra while the PickleShoes dancers will depict Prokofiev’s fairy tale through movement. The event begins at 3 pm. Tickets cost $9 for children, $14 for seniors, and $18 for adults.
The Schenectady Symphony Orchestra performs its show “Timeless Heroism” at Proctor’s Theatre. Pieces include Beethoven’s Symphony No. 3, Fidelio, and Cantus in Memorium of Benjamin Britten (Immortal Glory) as well as Gounod’s Soldier’s Chorus from Faust. Tickets cost $7.50. The event begins at 3 pm.

The Alvin Ailey American Dance Company showcases its works at Proctor’s Theatre on May 1 and May 2 at 8 pm. The company combines ballet, modern dance, and jazz to promote African culture. Tickets cost $19.75, $24.75, $34.75, or $42.75. There is a $10 discount for those 17 years and under.

The Sanctuary for Independent Media holds the African Film Festival at 7 pm. The festival will feature works from South Africa, Burkina Faso, Algeria, Morocco, and Egypt.
