Taking on a script that demands constant artifice and levity, the RPI Players demonstrated a  high level of discipline and artistic range in their rendition of Something Rotten!

The amusing story of Nick Bottom and his desperation to become as notable a writer as his former subordinate William Shakespeare truly came to life with the actors seemingly becoming one with their characters. Both the ensemble and leads’ stage presence filled the theater with a vibrant, powerful energy in a musical notorious for several back-to-back production numbers.

Visually, the production was a triumph of both design and technical coordination. Continuously needing to rotate large periaktoi and carry large props such as benches and tables, the stage crew handled the heavy set transitions with a seamlessness that kept the audience immersed, proving that what happens behind the scenes is just as valuable as what takes place under the spotlight.

Ultimately, this production was more than just a collection of clever Shakespeare references and laughs. It was a testament to the hard work and dedication of the RPI Players.

The RPI players will perform Something Rotten! this upcoming weekend on Thursday, April 2 and Friday, April 3 at 8 pm and Saturday, April 4 at 2 pm in the Schacht Theater at Russell Sage College.
