On October 22, the loyal staff members here at The Polytechnic participated in the annual Pizza Poll, wherein we sampled pizzas from around the region and judged each in order to allow you, the reader, to pick the best restaurant for your pizza needs. As the person in charge, I took my sheet of phone numbers and isolated myself in a separate room, so no one could tell which place was being ordered from, thus maintaining the integrity of the poll. As each pizza arrived, my crew of assistants bolted to the door, paid, and hid the information from the eager, hungry testers. We were in charge of writing down time of call versus time of arrival, the price, and the size of the pie.

In the living room, the rest of the group grew impatient as we were cutting up the slices and handing them out. They had the semingly easy jobs of watching the World Series and eating pizza, but it grew harder and harder with every piece of pizza. All testers were asked to judge each slice on quality of cheese, crust, sauce, overall taste, appearance, and all overall aspects. It was a little difficult at times, though, as we massacred some pieces with a kitchen knife since, ironically, none of us thought to bring a pizza cutter to a pizza testing.

Most noteworthy among the contestants was I Love NY on Hoosick Street, the winner by far. Restaurants won prizes in other categories, as well, such as the woman answering Inferno’s phone, who was the nicest person I talked to all night. She was forgiving of the loud cheers from the living room and even asked who was winning. Our favorite box was Gino’s, featuring a very attractive woman’s chest in a very tight dress. The funniest story of the evening, though, comes from Dan-Jo-Mattey’s, as the change was pulled from the delivery woman’s bra.
