Summin’ up

Indianapolis 31, Tennessee 17—Nick Harper’s key interception in the end zone prevented Tennessee from scoring. Edgerrin James’ two fourth quarter touchdown’s helped seal the win.

Carolina 28, Kansas City 17—Back-up DeShaun Foster started in place of the injured Stephen Davis and rushed for 174 yards and a touchdown, proving he could carry the load. Kansas City’s high-powered offense couldn’t help keep the pressure off their defense with Trent Green and Priest Holmes coming up with sub-par performances.

Chicago 21, Green Bay 10—Mike Brown’s 95 yard fumble return for a touchdown helped spark the win against division rival Green Bay. Thomas Jones had a big day rushing for 152 yards and a touchdown over the Packers defense. The victory was bittersweet for Brown, who tore his Achilles’ tendon, ending his season.

Philadelphia 27, Minnesota 16—Neither Randy Moss nor Terrell Owens had an electric performance, in this much hyped match up. Daunte Culpepper’s fumble on the 1-yard line and Morten Andersen’s missed field goal proved costly towards the end of the game.

Studs

Michael Vick—Vick looked like his old self, rushing for 109 yards and throwing for 179 yards and a touchdown, helping Atlanta upset the St. Louis Rams.

Roy Williams—Williams’ two touchdown performance showed he could carry the Lions’ receiving load on his sturdy shoulders in Charlie Rogers’ absence.

Duds

Quentin Griffin—Griffin’s poor performance of 68 rushing yards and costly fumble with 30 seconds left in the game erased Denver’s chance of kicking a game winning field goal.

Kellen Winslow Jr.—After suffering a broken leg, Winslow’s much hyped—but little substance—season could be over.

Washington Redskins—The Redskin’s three fumbles and four interceptions allowed the N.Y. Giants to snap their seven game losing streak, dating back to last season.

Lookin’ Ahead

Jacksonville vs. Tennessee—This week three match up between division rivals is crucial for Jacksonville to remain unbeaten and prove they are legitimate contenders. Tennessee can’t afford two early loses in their division.

Tampa Bay vs. Oakland—The final result of this Super Bowl 2003 rematch may prove insignificant, but there are many interesting story lines with Warren Sapp, Jon Gruden, and Tim Brown going against their former teams.

Fantasy Picks Start 'rm

Marshall Faulk—If he’s healthy, look for him to have a huge week against the Saints horrible run defense.

Domanick Davis—Look for Davis to run all over the Chiefs’ awful defense, and keep Holmes off the field.

Brett Favre—Look for Favre to rebound from his poor Sunday performance against the spotty Colts pass defense.

Bench ’em

Kevan Barlow—Barlow is going against a solid Seattle defense, with bruised ribs and without key center Jeremy Newberry.

Aaron Brooks—Without Deuce McAllister to take pressure off the passing game, look for Brooks to struggle against the Rams’ secondary.

Sleeper

Jake Plummer—Plummer’s play has been mediocre so far, but look for a possible breakout performance against the Chargers.
