Thank you so much to all of you who have helped us with this year’s Relay For Life. It was an enormous success thanks to you, the participants. Over 1,400 of you came out to join us and support the American Cancer Society. On Friday night, 92 teams came together on the ’86 Field in an effort to fund a cure for cancer. You raised over $80,000 to fight cancer! We are $30,000 short of our overall goal, but we haven’t given up yet. Donations can still be made online or through the mail until August. On top of the money donated, enough luminaria were purchased to line the entire track. Everyone who was at Relay had amazing spirits to fight back against this awful disease. Fourteen ponytails, which will be used to make free wigs for women with cancer, were donated to Pantene Beautiful Lengths. Thank you to our chapter of Colleges Against Cancer and the Orlo School of Hair Design for planning and hosting that event.
On behalf of the entire Relay For Life Committee and the ACS, we would like to say thank you to everyone. Thank you to the teams who held fundraisers to support ACS. Thank you to all who donated for this amazing cause. Thank you to the volunteers who gave their time and helped everything run smoothly. Thank you to everyone who provided entertainment throughout the night, including UPAC Sound, UPAC Lights, UPAC Comedy, WRPI, the Rusty Pipes, the Rensselyrics, Duly Noted, Partial Credit, the pep band, and the cheerleaders. Thank you to RPI TV for providing a live streaming broadcast of the event. Thank you to Margie Wood, Professor George Plopper, and President Shirley Ann Jackson for speaking during our opening ceremony. Thank you to the survivors for inspiring us to continue this fight. Most of all, thank you to everyone who came out Friday night. It is the enthusiasm, care, and determination you bring that makes Relay For Life so special. You were the ones who made this night successful.
Know that you have made an impact on cancer. With you, we can beat this disease! We will not give up until a cure has been found. Thank you to all of you!
