To the Editor:

I arrived on campus twenty minutes early today so I could grab a bagel with cream cheese and a coffee before class. It must have been all those “ambience packages” that convinced me to eat here instead of at home. I got a coffee at the Union, no sweat. Then, I walked over to the DCC because the ladies there are so friendly. After paying for my bagel and cream cheese—$1.50, but that’s another discussion—I waited ten minutes before throwing my hands up in disgust and running to class, just on time. I didn’t even order it toasted! Hey Gertrude, or Martha, or whatever, it’s a bagel, not a turkey dinner.

I have an interesting idea for Baldwin and Yates and all the hacks who can find time in their day to spend our money:Instead of dropping half a million dollars on some couches and light bulbs in the Union, we should staff the places we have first. Hiring another two or three retirees that spread cream cheese onto a bagel and hand it across a counter would cost a hell of a lot less and drastically improve service. Then, we won’t have to wait for ten minutes in the DCC or Sage just to get a bagel or a sandwich or a bottle of water.

So, Gertrude owes me $1.50. Just take it off my parking fines.
