To the Editor:

I was only able to read so many articles about Go Be Red in my favorite newspaper before I snapped. School spirit cannot be won in a hokey contest, cannot be created by a few buzzwords and a flashy logo, and certainly cannot be purchased with the student activity fee. Real school spirit comes from things like pride, love, and respect—things that making yourself look like an idiot dancing the electric slide will never get you. Perhaps instead of wasting $6,000 of the student body’s money (not to mention emergency funding) on Go Be Red, the Executive Board and the Student Senate could try spending money on actually improving student life—or, at the very least, give the money back to students.

I encourage everyone that reads The Polytechnic to come out and support our teams this school year—not just football and hockey, but field hockey, soccer, track & field, cross country, softball, baseball, basketball, tennis, lacrosse, swimming & diving, golf, etc. as well. Support our athletes out of pride, respect—whatever it takes, but not because you want to win a spring break vacation.
