I hope everyone’s third week is coming along well. Though you do not need me to remind you, in a few weeks we will be fully entrenched in work—make sure to take breaks, and let the Independent Council help you do so.
For those of you who don’t know, the IC is the group that represents independent students, who are not involved in social fraternities or sororities, in student government and the administration. For those of you who do know, I’ll apologize for repeating that line all too many times. As for campus politics, we try to avoid being terribly pushy unless an issue arises that directly affects independents.
Aside from politics, we try to accent Rensselaer’s social scene. Look for an IC-sponsored open games room night toward the end of this month. We hold a biannual pool tournament each semester, which has had large turnout in the past. We’re also planning sponsorship of an event at the end of each semester to celebrate the conclusion of courses with pizza, snacks, and other foods. When you fill out your course surveys at the end of the semester, you may encounter an IC survey to score elective courses. We’ll post the results of these surveys in the The Polytechnic the following semester to help other students select electives.
Have a great start to your semester. Look for more information on the open games room night in The Poly two weeks from now. For more information on the IC, you can e-mail me directly at marcua@rpi.edu, check out our webpage at http://independent.union.rpi.edu, or stop by one of our meetings in the Student Government Suite at 9 pm on Tuesday nights. Good luck with classes!
