They’re here! The Spring 2005 new member classes of RPI’s sororities have arrived, and the houses are very excited to begin their new member programs. The Panhellenic Council is proud to announce 27 new women between the three houses. The new girls are enthusiastic and eager to start learning more about what it means to be greek, participating in fun and informative activities, and striving to be model women of RPI.

A major goal of the RPI greeks this semester is to give back more to the Troy community. At the last Panhel meeting, the Executive Board decided to challenge each sorority to complete 265 hours of community service this semester in an effort to work toward this important objective. Also, it was strongly encouraged that the hours be completed at local charities such as the Troy YMCA and Salvation Army soup kitchen downtown.

Also in Panhel news, the beginning of the women’s programming series is set to begin next week. We are very excited to bring back the popular Mary Kay seminar where we learn about essential health and beauty concerns from the leading consultants of one of the nation’s top companies. Additionally, there is an Alcohol Awareness Seminar being put on by the IFC and Dean of Student’s Office/Greek Life. In order to attack a problem that exists in the college campuses and in greek systems nationwide, we must first understand the source. The informative and enlightening seminar will serve as a way for the RPI greeks to get in touch with the problem of alcohol without eliminating the social side of greek life.
