Congratulations to all the elected officials in the Class of 2008 elections! For all those who were not elected, please don’t be discouraged, and stay involved in your student government. There are plenty of other opportunities and I encourage you, and everyone else, to participate.
This does not just apply to the Class of 2008. There are many positions open to all students. In particular, there is a vacant Senate seat for both the Classes of 2005 and 2007. These positions are not being filled until this week. Interested students should contact the Grand Marshal or their respective class officers. For those seniors out there, it is never to late to get involved.
I hope all students take an active role in their government, be it at school or the governing body of this country. If you are not already registered, register to vote in the election this fall. There is a campus-wide effort to get out the vote, so if you need to register or get an absentee ballot, they are available in the Folsom Library.
This coming weekend is Homecoming Weekend and there are many great events planned for it. Each class council has been working hard on an activity for this weekend and they should all be a lot of fun. There is a powderpuff football game scheduled on Friday by the Class of 2005. The Class of 2007 is hosting a Homecoming Dance and the Class of 2006 is taking care of Homecoming Court. The newly elected freshman class will be hosting a bonfire this weekend. Get out there and have some fun. College is only four short years, and trust me, it goes by quickly!
