To the Editor:

We would like to congratulate the GM Week Committee and the Rules and Elections Committee for putting together a fabulous GM Week, especially the Finale event. In the March 24 issue of The Polytechnic, the staff editorial stated that “Poor planning is another setback to GM Week’s ability to give students the pleasant experience they deserve.” This couldn’t have been farther from the truth.

The Poly thought that “The last thing students want to do on a Friday night is haul themselves up to the Field House to hear election results.” We believe that the event was nearly 10 times better attended than previous years, and extremely enjoyable as well. Students came to hear the Battle of the Bands, rollerskate, listen to Orange Crush, see the fireworks, and even to hear the election results announced. The GM Week Committee was willing to put enough effort into the event for it to be a crowd-getter, and they executed their plan marvelously.

Given the technical setbacks faced by the Rules and Elections Committee, and the tremendous task of planning and operating the Finale event tackled by the GM Week Committee, we think that a fabulous GM Week was had by all. We hope that the RPI community will continue to exude the spirit it had last week for the remainder of the year, and will work it into everyday student life.

We also would like to thank the staff of the Union Administration Office, as well as the staff of The Polytechnic, which was a tremendous help in advertising the variety of events held during GM Week. We wish the new elected officials good fortune as they begin their terms.
