As a member of last fall’s incoming freshman class, I voluntarily agreed to stay in a converted triple in BARH. As soon as I arrived in August, I found that my lofted bed was very unstable and told my RA. She advised me to e-mail FIXX which I did.
I received a reply by e-mail telling me that the request would be forwarded to the correct people. Time went on and no repair had been made. I then told my RA again and she contacted FIXX, but as time continued to pass, I just began to accept that my bed would forever remain relatively unstable.
When FIXX put up their website, I thought I’d try that route and I received a quick reply asking me what room I was in. I replied, but again nothing has been fixed.
Soon after the card scanning machines were hooked up to the washers and dryers (there is one set on the first floor and one set on the second floor) in my wing in BARH they broke down and my hallmates and I either had to find change or hope that we could find an empty machine in another wing—after all, there are less than 10 washers and dryers throughout the whole building.
We told the RA who then contacted FIXX. When nothing was done, we also told the RD and the LA who also reported it to FIXX. One of my roommates e-mailed FIXX in the middle of November and received a reply that they were aware of the issue but that the person who could fix it was in training that week and would repair it the following week.
We continued to try and find other machines in the building or change as the RAD we put in our accounts to do laundry sat and sat. We figured it would be fixed by the end of Thanksgiving break. Wrong. We all, however, were definitely hoping that with the New Year and the new semester, surely it would have been working when we returned to RPI. Unfortunately, we were wrong again.
I really must admit that I’m not sure exactly what will get the card scanners fixed or my bed to actually be stable, but I do know that I’m becoming very used to dealing with things that need to be repaired.
