I hope you all enjoyed the long weekend, and had some time to relax. The weather was perfect, so it was a great chance to enjoy one of the last warm weekends of the year.

Before winter begins, I recommend that you try to appreciate the fall foliage around you. I had the chance to go up to the Adirondacks this past weekend where I saw so many trees that had changed to their autumn colors.

It’s difficult to take time out of our schedules for a break, but step outside, and you will be impressed by what you get to see. There are several places in the area to go apple picking, find a pumpkin patch, go on a hay ride, or get lost in a corn maze—this season offers so much to do.

In Saturday’s football game, RPI beat Union 33-7, winning back the Dutchman’s Shoes. The stands were packed with fans from both teams, and RPI’s school pride was very much prevalent.

Before the game, the Class of 2004 Class Council sponsored a tailgate party in the North Lot with free food and t-shirts for the first 50 seniors. In addition, families were gathered all around the lot having their own barbeques for friends and team players. The weather gave us a perfect day to sit outside and enjoy some company.

This Friday, men’s hockey will take on the University of Connecticut at 7 pm in the Houston Field House. If you haven’t purchased tickets for the season already, make sure you do so at your student discount price, and support the team during their home games.

I’d like to remind everyone that Family Weekend will be October 24-26. Several events will be hosted from Friday through Sunday, including the Communiversity Fall Fest on Saturday. We are holding this event in front of the Student Union, blocking off Sage Ave, so that it brings the Troy community up the hill and welcomes them to Rensselaer’s campus.

The Executive Board still needs a few students to join the constitution, building, and marketing committees. The E-Board has a strong committee structure, which deals with issues such as food service, bookstore operations, building décor, new clubs, etc. We would like your input and involvement. I outlined the various committees in an article two weeks ago. Being involved will allow you to share your ideas and be part of implementing them.

Contact me at pu@rpi.edu if you are interested in joining, or e-mail suggestions to the entire board at eboard@union.rpi.edu.
