I hope you are all enjoying your summer before hitting the books for the fall semester. For many of you the upcoming year will be a new experience, while others are on campus this summer to work and catch up on classes. Even during the summer, Rensselaer stays lively.

All across campus you may have noticed construction, which is helping to improve life at Rensselaer. Whether it is the new Biotechnology and EMPAC (Experimental Media and Performing Arts Center) buildings or the replacement of sidewalks, Rensselaer is constantly working to enhance the experience here. Many facilities stay open for use during the summer as well. The Student Union is always a great place to grab some food or even cool off. Many may want to get a head start on next semester and visit our Union Bookstore. In addition, the Mueller Center keeps regular hours and is always good for a refreshing workout.

In these upcoming months, student orientation will be starting up again. This is an exciting time for incoming students to meet some of their future classmates and get introduced to campus life. We hope that you feel welcome here and become more excited to enter as a freshman this fall. While on campus don’t hesitate to ask any questions of your student orientation advisors or current students you may come across. We all look forward to meeting the upcoming class of 2007.

For those here all summer I hope that you may take advantage of what the capital region has to offer. I suggest getting out to see an Albany Conquest football game, which some RPI alumni have been a part of. Near the end of July, the famous Saratoga Race Track opens for another exciting season, while the Saratoga Performing Arts Center has a great summer line up of concerts.

I look forward to seeing everyone in August and meeting the new faces around campus. Enjoy what is left of summer and come back in the fall ready for a great year. If you have any questions or would like more information, just e-mail me at pu@rpi.edu and I’ll be glad to help you out.
