Two weeks ago the Independent Council held its first-annual pool tournament, and the event could not have been a bigger success. Folks arrived from all across campus and entered to compete for the first, second, and third-place prizes being offered. During the tournament, a five-foot sub was served up, and all those competing were welcome to sample it, as well as the soda and chips provided. My thanks extend to the folks at Marriott for supplying us with such wonderful food—your help is much appreciated! The tournament ended nearly a half-hour ahead of schedule, allowing us to give our participants free use of the tables for the remainder of the time. In light of this success, the IC is seeking to make the IC Pool Tournament an annual event! If you are curious as to whom the winners were, visit the IC corkboard space outside the student government suite on the third floor of the Union.
Looking towards the immediate future, the IC is beginning survey processing once again. I would like to thank all of those who have participated in the past when they filled out the blue “IC Survey” forms handed out by selected professors. Your participation in this process helps others students make more informed decisions regarding the free elective and introductory courses they are interested in taking.
On a more somber note, I would like to publicly give my condolences to the families and friends of those lost in the space shuttle accident as of late. As a true believer in science and a supporter of the space program, I would like to think that their lives were not lost in vain. Instead, I hope that we, as engineers and citizens of the world, can collaboratively derive something of great value from this event and move forward into the future.
