Hello everyone again. I hope everyone enjoyed their long weekend and took a little time to relax.
This week, I would like to highlight UPAC Concerts for the work they have done in organizing concerts on campus this year. This weekend, they are sponsoring their annual Battle of the Bands in the McNeil Room of the Union on Saturday the 19th at 8 pm. Come be a part of the judging and see some great bands for free! Also, upcoming events include moe. in concert on October 31 and John Mayer with Nickel Creek on November 25. Tickets are currently on sale for both shows, at a reduced price for RPI students, at the Houston Fieldhouse box office. If you are interested in joining the club or just getting more information check out their website at http://concerts.union.rpi.edu.
Also happening this week is the men’s hockey team’s home opener on Friday against UMass-Lowell at 7 pm. The team opened its season this past weekend in the Ice Breaker Invitational where they advanced to the championship game before losing to Boston University. Come join the excitement and support our team as they begin a great season. Or if you’re looking for some live music on Friday, UPAC Mother’s will be sponsoring Bernice Lewis live in concert at Mother’s in the Union. The concert is free to RPI students so stop on in.
This past week, the Executive Board met for its regular business meeting, which was composed of a few business items and a trip to W2SZ. For those of you unfamiliar with W2SZ, it is a great club to get involved with if you are interested in amateur radio and talking to people around the world. The trip to W2SZ was part of an initiative set forth by the E-Board this year to see as many Union clubs that operate outside of Union as possible. The E-Board feels it is important to visit clubs as a group to gather a better understanding of all the organizations the Union encompasses to make fair and educated decisions.
As always, everyone is welcome to attend Executive Board meetings, which are held on Wednesdays at 7:30 pm in the Patroon Room of the Union. Please feel free to send me any questions or comments at pu@rpi.edu and x8598 or stop by the office in the Union 3136.
