Where will you be in a few years? Where will you be next summer? If you don’t know the answers to these questions, now is the time to start thinking about them, and the annual career fair is where you should be this weekend.
The career fair, organized by SHPE and NSBE, is a great opportunity to network with people in the industry and get your name out to the companies in which you’re interested. If you don’t know what companies you’re interested in, the fair is also the place to find out what each one has to offer.
Even if you’re not graduating this year, you should still go to the fair. Of course, there’s the opportunity of scoring an internship or co-op, but even if you’re not looking for something right away, visit the fair anyway. Talk to some companies. Find out what’s available out there, and what’s expected of potential candidates.
If you are serious about finding a job, co-op, or internship, sign up for the JobLink service with the CDC. The JobLink website allows you to browse companies that will be interviewing on campus, submit your resume to those you’re interested in, and register for interviews. The CDC has a host of other services to help you become a better candidate, from perfecting your resume to practicing your interview skills.
In a tough job market, every advantage you can give yourself is crucial. Take advantage of all the services RPI offers to its students and give yourself a leg up over the competition.
