Hello everyone. I hope your classes are going well and you haven’t been too buried with work. I would just like to remind everyone to take some personal time today to reflect upon the events and remember what occurred one year ago today.
The Union is busy as ever and this week is packed with events. Alianza Latina is sponsoring Latino Heritage Month, which is September 12 to October 17. The opening ceremonies are on Thursday the 12th at 6 pm in Mother’s Wine Emporium (Union–Rathskellar level). The festivities will be continuing on Friday the 13th with a Dance Party in the McNeil Room at 10 pm. Everyone is invited to attend so come have some fun. Also on Friday, UPAC Mother’s will be sponsoring its first performing artist of the year, the Phil Henry Band at 8 pm, and admission is free. On Saturday, the UPAC Council will be sponsoring its Showcase in the Union at 7 pm. There’ll be live music, a comedian, free food, and more!
If you’re looking for something to do this Saturday afternoon come out and cheer on the RPI football team as they host their season opener against Utica at 1 pm on the ‘86 Field. The team has their sights set high after an undefeated season last year. Other games you can check out are the field hockey team as they take on Westfield at 2 pm at the Harkness Field, and the Men’s Tennis Team is hosting their invitational at the Sharp Courts at 9 am.
The Executive Board met this past weekend for their annual orientation. Highlights of the orientation included extensive tours of Union and its sponsored facilities such as the RPI Playhouse and the Muller Center. The orientation weekend serves as a foundation for the board to build on. The E-Board will have its first meeting this week on Wednesday the 11th at 7 pm. The meeting will be an extended orientation period with formal business meetings beginning next Wednesday the 18th. There still are open positions on the Executive Board but they’re filling up quick so if you are interested apply this week.
There are tons of events taking place this week so get out and see what’s going on around campus. All of these events are put on for students by students so take advantage of them. As always please feel free to send me any questions or comments at pu@rpi.edu and x8598 or stop by the office in the Union in Room 3136.
