With the end of the semester upon us, it is a good time to assess the progress the greek system has made towards our goals. At the beginning of the semester, the greek leaders gathered and decided that the community would benefit most from better greek unity and increased community service. We are definitely well on the way to achieving these goals in better ways than expected. The sororities have celebrated unity at such events as the hundred years celebration of the National Panhellenic Council. We have also held events encouraging mingling amongst chapters to alleviate any tensions that might have existed. We are having mixers between the sororities as well.
As for community service, we started a friendly competition to encourage chapters to help the community. We collected all the hours of service performed by each chapter, and then calculated the average number of hours per sister. We’d like to congratulate Sigma Delta for winning the competition with over 80 hours per sister. Great job to Sigma Delta, and to all the greeks, for the wonderful service they have provided to the community. We continue to encourage our women to help their community in any way they can, whether it be through time spent or with donations.
This semester has also been one of great programming. There are far too many events to mention, but the highlights include the alcohol speaker sponsored by Alpha Gamma Delta and the speaker on gays, lesbians, and bisexuals in the greek system, which was sponsored by Order of Omega and the Health center. We’d also like to thank everyone who supported our programs by attending them, and all the wonderful speakers for coming and sharing their knowledge. We have great plans to continue such great presentations and phil-anthropy events in the next semester. So, we wish everyone the same luck with achieving their semester goals. Good luck on finals to everyone and have a great summer.
