The Executive Board continues to stay busy and will meet throughout the rest of the semester to handle current business and address issues that will affect the Union next year. This past week the Union sponsored the printing of a new publication known as Statler and Waldorf. I encourage everyone to grab a copy, check it out, and tell us what you think. This new publication will have a strong impact on the budget next year, and it is crucial that we hear your opinion. Throughout this week the E-Board will be polling students and conducting surveys to gather feedback in order to make the best decision. We want to hear what you have to say, so please e-mail the E-Board at eboard@union.rpi.edu or myself at pu@rpi.edu–this is your activity fee money and your opinion matters.
I would like to congratulate the RPI Flying Club; they competed and placed first in the National Intercollegiate Flying Association regional competition last week. The top pilot of the competition was also an RPI student. The victory for RPI was a major upset over other schools that have extensive flying programs such as Daniel Webster College, Wilmington College, Delaware State University, and the College of Aeronautics. This is the first time RPI has ever placed first in regional competition. The victory enables them to compete in the national competition in Ohio in three weeks.
I would like to once again encourage students interested in student government to apply for the E-Board next year. This is your opportunity to have your voice heard and work directly with the administration to make changes. As a member of the Executive Board you will directly impact the activity fee, which all students pay. It’s your opportunity to make a difference. Why continue to complain about the way things are when you can change them? Applications are still being accepted and are available in the Union Administration Office.
So as the semester is quickly winding down and most of us have work piling up, remember to take a break to enjoy the beautiful spring weather. Come out and support our athletic teams, especially the red-hot baseball team as they continue their dominance in the UCAA and prepare for the playoffs. The Union is also a great place to relax and take a study break, enjoy the air conditioning on a hot day or grab some Ben and Jerry’s ice cream to cool down. Well, I would like to wish everyone good luck with your finals and final projects.
