Wow! It’s hard to believe elections and campaigning are finally over. During the election seasons we really get the opportunity to see the spirit we have on campus. I was ecstatic to see the level of enthusiasm by all of the political parties and independent candidates this year. Other groups on campus compounded the energy this week with their respective events. I look forward to carrying this energy through the coming school year.

I’d like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who gave me so much support through this year on Senate and the elections process. First, I’d like to thank the members of the Apollo Party for their relentless work ethic and support throughout this campaign. In addition, I’d like to thank my fraternity brothers for teaching me so much about leadership and providing steadfast support during this campaign. Also, I’d like to thank the other political parties for putting forth so much effort and energy.

I’d like to thank my girlfriend Kristen. You gave us unwavering support every step of the way, putting your own work aside and lifting the spirits of everyone on the team. Thank you for all that you do, and I love you very much.

To the outgoing GM, Gil Valadez, I’d like to thank you for teaching me so much about leadership and friendship this past year. You have taught me more than you know and I hope that I can fulfill your expectations in the upcoming year. You will be missed and I wish you the best in your endeavors as you leave RPI.

I’d like to thank the IFC, Panhel, and The Poly staff for their support and advice. To the Rules and Elections Committee, GM Week Committee, and others that make GM Week possible: thank you for your hard work and dedication. You are not appreciated enough, and I hope we can find hardworking dedicated students to follow in your paths.

I’m extremely excited for the upcoming student government term. I’d like to invite everyone to attend our first meeting tonight, at 9:00 pm in Union Room 3202 (if the room changes I’ll post it on the Union bulletin boards). We will be planning our goals and defining our vision for the upcoming term. Five goals we will be discussing and refining are increasing campus presence and feedback systems, increasing Senate involvement in policy making decisions, physical facilities improvement, reevaluation of the advising system and the registration process, and better student government information systems. If you want to be involved in defining our vision for the next term, please come to our meeting and get involved.

Finally, there are lots of Student Government positions that need to be filled. Anyone interested in serving in any capacity should contact me at gm@rpi.edu. Also, I’d like everyone to know that my door is always open. I always appreciate talking with students, and I look forward to hearing from you.

Once again, I’d like to thank everyone who voted and made GM Week possible. You are the ones that bring spirit and energy to RPI, and I look forward to working with you. Good night everyone.
