To the Editor and Ms. Duchin:
Please accept my congratulations and gratitude for the recent lecture series organized by Assistant Professor Kim Fortun. I found these lectures to be highly engaging intellectually. Also these lectures have broadened my perception of the world beyond the comfortable borders that have bound me.
In addition, I am greatly perturbed at the rumors that these lectures may be canceled. I can not sufficiently express the dire need for the dissemination of intellectual opinion (opinion based on knowledge and experience). Especially since the major mediums of information (television, radio, newspaper, etc) are continuously removing objectivity from the “news” and replacing it with truncated and packaged “information.” If there is any validity to these rumors, I urge you to reconsider.
Again, I thank you and Assistant Professor Fortun for affording me these opportunities (and also on behalf of many of my friends and colleagues). Ikram Mohl, P.E.
