Well, it is GM Week. Primaries are over and on Thursday we have the final vote for our candidates. This is a great time to be on RPI’s campus. We have class cancelled today, we have plenty of activities to enjoy, and we will have new student leaders for the next year.
Last week the Interfraternity Council in the general assembly voted to endorse one candidate each for the positions of President of the Union and Grand Marshal. Each candidate was allowed to speak for three minutes and then had three minutes of questions. All the candidates expressed a lot of emotion and desire for their respective positions.
For Grand Marshal the IFC has endorsed Chris Mather from the Apollo Party. During his speech Chris highlighted many activities he would like to pursue if he is elected, namely increasing the campus presence of the GM and increasing involvement in student government. Chris also proposes to work on communication issues while furthering a greater involvement with the other student government organizations on campus such as IFC and Panhel and to expand the concept of the 20 days and 20 nights of feedback as a year round policy.
For the President of the Union, IFC has endorsed Mike Borzumate from the Celestial Party. Mike would like to expand the already increasing involvement between non-greeks and greeks on campus. He would also like to see many events and new opportunities for greeks and non-greeks to be involved in together. In terms of the financial side of the Union, Mike would like to see the budget become more stable and will push for a solution that would allow long-term firm financial standing.
Please come out and support the candidates and vote in Thursday’s elections.
Aside from all the Union sponsored events being held this week we have many events being held by individual chapters, the IFC, and the Panhel. Have fun with the rest of the week!
