As a new student at RPI, you might have heard that there’s nothing to do as an RPI student, so you’d better get good and comfortable in your dorm room.
Actually, this isn’t quite the case. There are a lot of ways to spend your spare time. You just need to know where to look.
The first place you should look is the Activities Fair at the Houston Field House on Thursday. No matter where your interests lie, there are probably other students who share those interests, and clubs are the place to find them.
Even if you don’t think you want to join a club, check out the fair anyway. You may be surprised by what you find there, and something you wouldn’t expect might be right up your alley.
If you miss the fair, you’re not out of luck. Clubs are always looking for new members, and are usually willing to have potential members attend events to find out if they like it. If you’re not sure, try a few things. Keep only the ones you want.
If you’re just looking for something to do with some spare time, check out the local businesses in Troy. Contrary to popular opinion, there are cool places to go in Troy, many within walking distance. Before the weather gets hideous, take that walk—don’t drive, you’ll miss everything—around downtown and really look at what Troy has to offer.
Your college experience is what you make of it. Make it a good one!
