EMPAC presents Dance Movies 7, a series of short dance films and videos directed and choreographed by professionals from Hungary, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, and Canada. The show begins at 7:30 pm in the West Hall Auditorium. Admission is free.

Northern Lights features Playback, Tawny, Bre, Nu-Tren, Scandalez, Monet, Joey Page, and Hosted by Frazier at 7:30 pm. Tickets cost $10.

The Egg hosts Donnybrook Fair at 7:30 pm. The Celtic group consists of David McDonnell, Jeff Strange, and Kevin McKrell. Tickets cost $20.

Compania Nacional De Danza 2 performs at The Egg at 8 pm. The group will perform works from Spanish choreographer Nacho Duato. Tickets cost $12 for children, $20 for seniors, and $24 for adults.

La Unidad Latina hosts its 10th annual poetry slam in the auditorium of the Center for Biotechnology and Interdisciplinary Studies. The event will begin at 6:30 pm. Admission is free.

Northern Lights presents XThe Miles BetweenX, Stifling Neglect, Heal These Wounds, She Is A Liar, Rust of Red, and Fatal Fascination at 7 pm. Tickets cost $6 in advance or $8 on the day of the show.

Proctor’s Theatre sponsors the Schenectady Symphony Orchestra and the Niskayuna High School Symphony Orchestra at 7:30 pm. Tickets cost $5 for students and $7.50 for adults.

Ground Zero holds an Open Mic Night at 8 pm. The event will take place at the Nugent Hall Basement. Admission is free.

The Egg features standup comedian Chelsea Handler at 8 pm. Handler had performed for Comedy Central’s Premium Blend and The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and had guest appearances on My Wife and Kids and The Bernie Mac Show. She has also written a number of books including Are You There Vodka? It’s Me Chelsea and My Horizontal Life: A Collection of One Night Stands. Tickets cost $29.50.

The Troy Savings Bank Music Hall presents the Russian National Orchestra as part of the Troy Chromatic Concerts. Music includes works from Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninoff, and Glazunov. Tickets cost $50 or $55. The event is free for RPI students on a first come, first serve basis. The event will begin at 8 pm.

Eugene Katsevman and Maria Manusova perform at the Armory to open up for the Ballroom Dance Competition. Katsevman and Manusova are the number one ranked U.S. Latin Amateur Couple. The showcase will begin at 1 pm. Tickets cost $3 with student ID and $5 for regular admission in advance, or $5 at the door with student ID and $10 for regular admission.

The Egg showcases “Branches of Words,” a group of performances highlighting 12th century Persian poetry, American modern dance, and Middle Eastern classic and contemporary music. The event begins at 7 pm. Tickets cost $10 for students, seniors, and children or $20 for adults.

Asian Awareness Week kicks off with a fashion show at the Academy Hall Auditorium. The event begins at 7:30 pm. Admission is free.

Sheer Idiocy performs in DCC 308. The Idiots celebrate their tenth birthday by welcoming back alumni who will perform alongside the current members of the improv troupe. Alumni in attendance will include Matthew Duggan ’03, Jeff Kimball ’01, Michael Hourihan ’04, and Matthew Welch ’05 (among many others). The event will begin at 8 pm. Admission is free.

The Empire State Youth Orchestra holds its spring concert at the Troy Savings Bank Music Hall at 3 pm. The program includes music from Ranjbaran, Sarasate, and Tchaikovsky. Tickets cost $10 or $15.

iEAR sponsors the second annual Margaret Mead Film and Video Festival at The Sanctuary. Films will be shown on March 21, 28, and April 4 at 7 pm. Films include El Inmigrante, China Blue, and Shooting Under Fire. Tickets cost $5 for students and seniors or $10 for the general public. Students with RPI ID are allowed free of charge.
