The Egg showcases Oregon at 8 pm. The band blends Indian and western classical music with jazz, folk, and avant-garde styles. Members include guitarist Ralph Towner, woodwind instrumentalist Paul McCandless, bassist Glenn Moore, and percussionist Mark Walker. Tickets cost $24.

Proctor’s Theater presents comedian George Carlin at 8 pm. Carlin has been a renowned American icon for almost 50 years and his humor is still strong today. Tickets cost $29.50 or $44.50.

The Egg hosts Daniel Bernard Roumain and The Mission at 8 pm. Roumain is a composer and violinist who has mixed funk, rock, hip-hop, and classical music together to create his style. The Mission joins Roumain in his performance, featuring instruments such as strings, percussion, and keyboards. Tickets cost $24.

The Palace Theatre holds the theatrical production of “A Far Cry from Freedom: Memories of the House and Field,” a play derived from L. Lloyd Stewart and Dr. Mars Hill. Tickets cost $22. The event begins at 8 pm.

The Sanctuary for Independent Media features Jason Kao Hwans and his Jazz Quartet at 8 pm. Musical pieces include songs from their new CD. Tickets cost $10.

SUNY Albany welcomes Michael Kammen as part of the Spring 2007 Visiting Writers Series, which is sponsored by the New York State Writers Institute. Kammen is a Pulitzer prize-winning historian whose latest book examines freedom of expression in American democracy. There will be a reading and discussion in the University Art Museum at 7 pm. Admission is free.
