The Salvage Vanguard Theater presents The Intergalactic Nemesis at Troy Savings Bank Music Hall. The play is a sci-fi and comedic story about creatures from outer space on their way to invade Earth. The only ones who can save the planet are a man from the future and a reporter from the present. Tickets cost $15 for students and $24 or $27 for adults.

The Egg welcomes actor Burdette Parks for his performance in “Benjamin Franklin, Printer Etc.” The play features historical figure Ben Franklin and the innovations he has achieved during his lifetime. Performances are at 7:30 pm on Thursday, 8 pm on Friday and Saturday, and 2 pm on Sunday. Tickets cost $12 for students, $20 for seniors, and $24 for adults.

The Schenectady Light Opera Company celebrates its 80th anniversary concert with a variety of Broadway numbers performed by singers and dancers. Tickets cost $15. The event begins at 8 pm on Friday and Saturday, and 2 pm on Sunday.

EMPAC features Brooklyn band So Percussion with special guest Dirty Projectors. So Percussion will perform music from David Lang and Steve Reich. Admission is free and the concert begins at 8 pm at Academy Hall.

The Comedy Works presents comedians Buddy Fitzpatrick and Dan Wilson. There is a dinner prior to the comedy show at 6:30 pm. The shows begin at 8 pm and 10:30 pm on both Friday and Saturday. Tickets cost $20 for the show or $45.95 for both the dinner and the show.

Ground Zero hosts its first Open Mic Night of the year at the Nugent Hall Basement. The event takes place at 8 pm. Admission is free.

Schenectady County Community College celebrates the Midwinter Music Festival at the Carl B. Taylor Auditorium. The concert features gospel and blues music from New Bethel Chorale, Duryee AME Zion Male Chorus, Diagnosis Free, the Fantastic Four, Michelle “Missy” Williams, and DBS Band. Tickets cost $12. The festival begins at 6 pm.

The Fred Astaire Dance Studio presents “There’s No Business Like Show Business” at The Egg. The show begins at 6:30 pm.

Northern Lights hosts Back in Black, who will perform a tribute to ACDC at 7:30 pm. Tickets cost $10 in advance or $12 on the day of the show.

The Albany Symphony Orchestra holds “A Night in Old Russia” at the Palace Theatre. The performance includes pieces from Tchaikovsky, Borodin, and Mussorgsky. Tickets cost $21, $34, or $42. The event begins at 7:30 pm.

The Troy Savings Bank Music Hall welcomes Broadway stars Marni Nixon, Hal Robinson, and Sarah Rice for a performance in “MENAGE: Have Gown, Will Travel.” The performance showcases work from composers Stephen Sondheim, Ivor Novello, Rick Besoyan, and Jones and Schmidt. The show begins at 8 pm. Tickets cost $25 or $30.

Art Garfunkel performs a wide selection of songs from his solo albums at Proctor’s Theatre. Garfunkel is a singer, songwriter, and actor best known for being a part of the folk duo Simon and Garfunkel. The show begins at 7 pm. Tickets cost $19.75, $39.75, $49.75, or $59.75.

The Times Union Center showcases “Supernova - The RockStar Tour.” Supernova consists of drummer Tommy Lee of Motley Crue, guitarist Gilby Clarke of Guns N’ Roses, and bassist Jason Newsted of Metallica. Tickets cost $38.50 or $48.50. The concert begins at 7:30 pm.

The RPI Players holds auditions for their scheduled spring musical, City of Angels, on Tuesday, January 23 from 7-10 pm and Wednesday, January 24 from 7-10 pm. Both nights of auditions are located in the RPI Playhouse, across from the RPI Student Union (on the corner of 15th St. and Sage Ave. in Troy). Callbacks, if needed, will be Thursday, January 25 in the RPI Playhouse. Interested parties are asked to prepare one verse of a solo part of a Broadway show tune in their vocal range and bring sheet music, as an accompanist will be provided.
