With the runway in place, the lights dimmed, and the music blasting, the Black Students’ Alliance kicked off its annual fashion show on Friday.
Featuring clothes from participating stores in Crossgates Mall, this year’s show turned out to be better than expected. Since a fair amount of the audience was from surrounding schools, there was a lot of anticipation of what was to come.
The show was separated into six different scenes: business, casual, formal, sportswear, lingerie, and club. Between the scenes, different performers displayed their talents, which included singing, rapping, and a saxophone interlude.
Although the talent portions of the show were not all received well by the audience, the fashion scenes really excited the crowd. "I really enjoyed the fashion show. The music was hot, the models looked good and had lots of energy … clothes were up to date and nice," said one spectator.
The club scene was obviously the highlight of the evening. In the beginning of this scene, the models worked the runway after dancing in a "Soul Train" line and were obviously having a lot of fun.
"The talent among the models, the comedy in the show itself, really made this show a lot of fun," said one model.
Then, in keeping with the fast pace and high energy set at the beginning of the evening, six of the models performed a choreographed dance to Foxy Brown and Jay-Z’s song "I’ll Be."
Overall, the energetic models, different scenes, and good selection of music made this fashion show a definite success. The organizers were pleased, as were the models, and all are looking forward to next year’s event.
