Sigma Phi Epsilon hosts Pizza tasting extravaganza
On Sunday, September 2, Sigma Phi Epsilon gathered Troy’s finest pizzerias together to host their fourth annual Pizza Tasting. During each fall rush, SigEp brings Troy’s pizza community to RPI’s doorstep. Attendance to SigEp’s signature event has grown each year, and this year was no exception. The brothers of Sigma Phi Epsilon hosted a record breaking over 200 guests this year, with lines stretching out the door and down the block.
Seven different pizzerias participated in the event this year, many of which are little-known to the RPI community. In addition to the participating pizzerias, Red Bull participated by supplying various types of energy drink. Each pizzeria donated both cheese and specialty pies to the event. Participants were allowed to sample each pizza and rate it on several criteria, including cheese, sauce, topping, crust and overall taste. Votes were tallied and plaques awarded to best overall and best specialty pizzas.
This year, Rusty’s swept the board, taking the throne for both best overall pizza and best specialty pizza. Rusty’s is located at 2311 2nd Avenue, across the river in Watervliet. It is a short drive if you have a car, but also an easy delivery for people who don’t have access to a car or who do not want to brave the trip.
We would like to the following participants for making this year’s Pizza Tasting a roaring success: Davinci’s Pizza, Domino’s, Hoosick Pizza, I Love New York Pizza, Inferno’s Pizzeria, Red Front Restaurant, Rusty’s Pizza, and Red Bull. Next year we hope to have their participation (and yours as well) in another successful tasting!
