The RPI golf team could not shake itself out of its funk last week as it finished last in both tournaments it competed in.

On Wednesday, the Red Hawks took part in the Skidmore Fall Classic at Saratoga National Golf Club, finishing the day with a team score of 327. Skidmore won the event with a team total of 303.

Freshman Erik Thomas led the way for Rensselaer with a nine-over-par round of 81. Senior Mike Fee and sophomores Steven Petsche and Bryan Hansen finished right behind Thomas with scores of 82 each.

On Friday, RPI traveled to Verona, N.Y., to compete in the Hamilton-Shenendoah Invitational. The team turned in a two-day total of 674, far behind Salem State’s winning score of 608.

Thomas was first for the Red Hawks again, tying for 32nd overall with rounds of 81 and 79.

RPI will conclude its fall season this weekend in New York City at the Violet Classic.

Women’s tennis bows out of league playoffs

After finishing the regular season on a 1-3 skid, the Rensselaer women’s tennis team entered the Liberty League Championship looking to make some waves. It was not to be, however, as the Engineers were swept 5-0 in two straight matches and were subsequently bounced from the tournament.

RPI, the eight seed in the two-day event, lost to top-seeded Vassar on Saturday, and to fifth-seeded William Smith on Sunday. Thanks to a default by Union, Rensselaer officially finished seventh overall.

Vassar won the league title for the fourth consecutive year.
