Introduction
Carol Scalice did at the ECAC Championship Meet on Saturday, March 5, in Canton, N.Y., exactly what she has done all year; win. The sophomore leaped a school-record 5.46 meters to take first in the long jump en route to being named Liberty League Co-Field Performer of the Week and provisionally qualifying for the NCAA national meet.
Marion Albert, who was chosen as Liberty League Rookie of the Week for the fifth straight week, helped the 4x400 team place second at the ECAC meet and reach an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 3:58.47. Sue Madden took fourth in the shot put to round out a solid day for the women’s track and field team.
On the men’s side, Kemar Brown, who was named Liberty League Track Performer of the Week for the fourth time this season, continued to excel as he won the 55-meter dash in a NCAA provisional qualifying time of 6.59 seconds. Brown also helped the 4x200 relay team take fourth. Brandon O’Toole also finished fourth in the pole vault, clearing 4.39 meters. Adedji Akindele-Alo finished fifth in the 55-meter hurdles to conclude the scoring for RPI.
Derevianko reaches NCAA Division III meet
Sophomore Greg Derevianko received word on Friday, March 4, that he qualified for the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events at the NCAA National Championship Meet in Bloomington, Ind., on March 16 through the 19. Derevianko finished second in both the 1-meter and 3-meter events at the New York State Championship Meet last weekend. Derevianko was honored with the ECAC Division III Co-Diver of the Week award for his performances.
