Introduction

Joe Juneau ’91 must have seen how revved up the Houston Field House got to welcome back former Engineer Adam Oates ’84 on Black Friday, November 5, and figured he should join the party at his alma mater. Juneau, arguably the second most successful product of RPI hockey, will be revisiting Rensselaer for the first time since he joined the Boston Bruins for the 1991-1992 season at today’s “White Wednesday” men’s hockey game against Hockey East foe Providence College. Special white rally towels will be handed out to the first 2000 fans to enter the Field House.

There are no plans announced for the RPI graduate to address either the fans or the team, but Juneau will address the team prior to the game.

Juneau, of Pont-Rouge, Que., scored 156 goals and handed out 416 assists in 828 games in the National Hockey League. In his rookie year, Juneau broke the NHL record for most assists in a season by a left wing and rookie with 70.

Athletes giving back

The Rensselaer Student-Athlete Advisory Committee is currently running a Toys for Tots campaign across campus in an effort to bring some holiday cheer to the less fortunate. New, unwrapped toys can be dropped off in any of the many drop boxes across campus. The drop boxes are labeled “Toys for Tots” and are located in the Rensselaer Union, Mueller Center, Library, VCC and Houston Field House. The last day of the collection is Tuesday, December 21.

Sellitto, Cochran receive national recognition

The tradition of excellence in athletics and academics continues at Rensselaer and junior Ed Sellitto of the men’s soccer team and junior linebacker Grant Cochran of the football team are textbook examples of this belief. Sellitto was named to ESPN The Magazine’s National All-Academic All-American third team in soccer while ESPN also recognized Cochran, naming him a member of the National Academic All-American second team. Rensselaer boasted eight nationally academic All-Americans last year, tops among Division III schools, and second across all NCAA divisions.

Tae-kwon-do Kicking

The RPI Tae-Kwon-Do club had five of its six competitors finish in the top three in their respective weight classes at the Northeast Regional competition at MIT on November 14. Glenn Berard, Paul Czajkowski, Kamil Wasilewski, Chris Deal, and Simon Tang all qualified to compete in the national tournament in Berkeley, Cal. in April 2005.
