RPI remains undefeated after a wild offensive display in last Saturday’s game at Hartwick. Both team’s defenses were nowhere to be found as the teams scored at will, the Engineers ending up on top 62-47.
"This wasn’t a football score, this was a track meet or a basketball score," Head Coach Joe King said. "I’ve never seen anything like it."
Things looked grim for the Engineers early on, as the Hawks came out strong and took a commanding 21-7 lead by the end of the first quarter. But in the second quarter, it was Hartwick’s defense that failed them, and RPI brought the score to 21-20 by halftime.
Things only got wilder from there, the two teams combining to score a whopping 68 points in the second half. The teams traded touchdowns until six minutes into the fourth, when RPI took the lead 48-41 and held it for good.
Quarterback Dan Cole went 20-for-42, good for 337 yards of the Engineers 608 total yards of offense. He also ran the ball 13 times for 75 yards. The total yardage on senior Joe Prymas’ 16 carries fell just two yards short of a 100-yards-rushing feat, and Wide Receiver Kevin Siska had eight catches on the day for 213 yards.
Hartwick was previously undefeated going into Saturday’s game. The Engineers, now 5-0 on the year, travel to Rochester Saturday to take on the St. John Fisher Cardinals. They will not play at home again until the Hobart game on November 10.
