The Engineers showdown with league-leading Harvard was deflated by Sophomore Center Dominic Moore, who scored the Crimson’s first hat trick since January 3, 1999 in defeating RPI 5-2.

Despite getting on the board first, the Engineers could not shut down the Harvard power play, which went 3 for 4 and accounted for two of Moore’s goals.

But RPI Head Coach Dan Fridgen seemed to think the Engineers’ defense was to blame. "It doesn’t take Mario Lemieux to score the goals he did. You could’ve put them in with one arm on the stick."

While the Engineers offense did manage to take 43 shots, they didn’t really put any pressure on Harvard’s Oli Jonas. Jonas made several nice plays, including picking off a bullet fired by Sophomore Nolan Graham.

The loss didn’t cost the Engineers anything in the national rankings, but it did make it much harder for them to catch the Crimson in the ECAC standings. The Engineers should get a boost from the return of Marc Cavosie who rejoins the team after representing the U.S. in Russia. Additionally, RPI will regain the services of Sophomore Carson Butterwick who suffered a back injury against Brown.
