In my freshman year, college life seemed to overcome me quite rapidly. I was overwhelmed with new-found independence, harder classes, and the chance to get involved with an endless number of clubs. I met hundreds of people through NRB, Student orientation, and other on-campus events, but it wasn’t until a year later that I really found girls whom I shared deep interests with. During fall recruitment I had the opportunity to learn about the different houses and get to know what each sorority stood for.

One by one, the girls in my freshman dorm became affiliated, and it was soon clear to me that becoming a sister meant more than wearing greek letters, attending weekly meetings, and going to social functions. It meant having a group of girls to support you, mentor you, and make the transition into college life easier and more exciting.

Formal recruitment is the main way to give potential new members a look into sorority life. A recruitment counselor is provided to help guide individuals through the process. To become eligible for a bid, you must visit all three national panhellenic sororities at least once, although it is encouraged to attend as many events as possible. All five sororities at RPI will be participating in Fall Recruitment: Alpha Gamma Delta, Alpha Omega Epsilon, Alpha Phi, Pi Beta Phi, and Sigma Delta. At each recruitment event, women will have the opportunity to get to know each house and ask questions about academics, finances, new member programs, scholarship, philanthropy, and sorority life in general.

Sisterhood is the strongest value for every sorority on campus. Becoming a member of a sorority means making friendships that will last far beyond your college years. As this semester’s recruitment comes to a close, we hope that the girls who participated this fall have fully explored all options and make their choice based on where they feel they fit best. Whether you’re an incoming freshman or struggling to finish your fifth year of academics, college life never fails to bring new and exciting experiences to you. The experiences that each house shares strengthen sisterhood and tie us all together.
