Gooooood Mooorrningggg Viet—RPI! Well this is it; Grand Marshal Week is finished, the three long weeks of was campaigning are finally over, and now it’s time to start my long, challenging, and—from what I’ve heard—sleepless year. And to be honest, I couldn’t be more excited. I would like to thank everyone that supported me, voted for me, or just laughed at my campaign posters (Let’s be honest, they were some pretty sweet posters); it is the students like you who participate in GM Week and student elections that make all of this possible.

First things first: for the last month or so that we will be here at RPI, there are a few things that I will be doing with the current Executive Board. Expect to see more publicity for the year-end concert. In case you forgot, on May 3, Panic! at the Disco will be performing in the Houston Field House as part of the Honda Civic Tour. So if you don’t have tickets yet, keep a lookout in the coming weeks to learn how to get some. In addition to that, the Executive Board will continue to work on the Games Room renovation so that we may get the first steps of the project completed over the summer.

Next year will be a busy and exciting year for the Union and the Executive Board. I look forward to continuing to promote the Hockey Line, as the E-Board did this year. In addition to Hockey Line festivities, expect to see more programming at hockey games for loyal fans in the student section. Next year I plan to ramp up the excitement in the student section of the hockey game and increase fan excitement, not only to add to the already amazing fan experience, but to show the team as much support as possible. Hockey, however, won’t be the only sport that I will focus on; I plan to explore options and hope to increase the attendance at other sports across the board. On the student activities side of things, I hope to increase attendance at student organization-sponsored events such as the performances that occur in the Union on an almost weekly basis. I think that it is my responsibility as President of the Union to get these organizations the amount of recognition that they deserve from the campus community.

On the administrative side of things, there will also be changes. I hope to work closely with the Union administration staff to streamline the new club formation procedure so that new organizations can be formed as quickly as possible, while maintaining the oversight that must exist to ensure that clubs are given proper consideration by the Board. I also plan to work closely with the Inter-fraternity Council to ensure effective communications and to develop a symbiotic relationship with that organization. The IFC provides a fantastic link to the student body, and I hope to work very closely with the greeks this year.

Next year will be a fun and exciting year in the Union. I hope and plan to look back at this article in a year and report to you about the success of these projects along with many more.

In closing, I would like to extend an invitation to the campus community to join the 2008-2009 Executive Board. The board is an amazing organization to be part of and offers unique and challenging opportunities to its members. There are applications posted throughout the Union. If you have an interest in working on this team, I encourage you to fill out an application; you have nothing to lose and everything to gain. If you have any questions about the E-Board or would like an application, don’t hesitate to send me an e-mail at pu@rpi.edu. Here’s to you RPI; it’s going to be a great year.
