As I mentioned last week, Rensselaer will be hosting the Honda Civic Tour on May 3. Panic! At the Disco, Motion City Soundtrack, The Hush Sound, and Phantom Planet will be performing in the Houston Field House. This is definitely not an event to be missed!
Tickets will go on sale this Friday, February 15, at 10 am in the Field House. Make sure to bring your RPI ID as it will guarantee you a discounted price of $15. The idea of this concert is to relax and bring friends together, so you will able to purchase an additional full price ticket for a friend who does not attend RPI. Come May 3, this campus will be transformed with energy and excitement, and you do not want to miss out on all the fun. Make sure to purchase your tickets early, as I am sure they will sell quickly.
Underclassmen, this is an event that will cap your first years with enthusiasm and excitement. Upperclassmen, this is a great event that will cap your time at Rensselaer and offers a venue to change your friends’ perception of an engineering school. For those of you who attended O.A.R., you will remember all the excitement and enthusiasm surrounding the concert … and this is a chance to make some more crazy stories! I promise you that this event will bring the campus together and create a sense of community yet to be reached. Many students complain about the “feel” of our campus, and wish that it would be more like a state school. I would argue that it is not due to a lack of events on campus, but rather a lack of pride in the school. This concert should help change your previous opinions and hopefully build some pride. The mood surrounding this event will be both energetic and rewarding as well as a much needed mental break before finals.
In preparation for this event, purchase your tickets and download the bands’ music from Ruckus. Get a group of friends together and plan a whole day event around the concert. And finally, call your friends from other schools and invite them up for a day at RPI. As I have mentioned, this event would not be possible without the support of the student body, and I encourage you to spread the hype by word-of-mouth. We will market the event and place posters, but I am depending on my peers—you—to help advertise this event.
As you can tell, I am extremely excited for this upcoming concert and I hope you are too. If you are interested in seeing the work that goes on behind the scenes, and would like to lend a helping hand to make this event successful, please send me an e-mail at pu@rpi.edu or give me a call. We have a great event ahead of us, and I really encourage you to get involved in some way—even if it means just buying a ticket!
