The weekend of April 13-15 was a very busy time for the members of the Panhellenic Association. Along with the Interfraternity Council, we sponsored an enjoyable Greek Weekend. There was a barbecue on Friday night in the Quad, bringing together the sisters of the five campus sororities with RPI’s fraternity members. On Saturday, house teams competed against each other at the Greek Olympics, showcasing talents in events such as the water balloon toss and the tug-of-war. The community service event scheduled for Sunday, cleaning up downtown Troy, was rescheduled due to rain and snow for April 22.

Saturday, April 14 was Accepted Students Day. Along with Vice President of Recruitment Danielle LeBeau, I met with many potential students of the Class of 2011 and their family members. We answered questions and encouraged the female students to look beyond the stereotypes and learn more about Greek Life.

One of the annual highlights for greeks at RPI is the Award of Excellence, which also took place on April 14. Out of the 10 categories awarded to houses, our Panhellenic member sororities earned three first place awards and five honorable mentions. Alpha Gamma Delta won the Award of Excellence in the categories of Academic Achievement and Administrative Responsibility/Chapter Management, and received honorable mentions in Greek Relations and Risk Management. Alpha Phi earned the Award of Excellence in Citizenship, while Pi Beta Phi received honorable mentions in the categories of Academic Achievement, Citizenship, and Housing.

There are two individual awards given annually to outstanding female members of the greek community. I would like to congratulate Katie Dumas for receiving the Jessie K. Fortier Memorial award, given to recognize true sisterhood and spirit. Lindsey McKeen was selected as the 2007 Greek Woman of the Year. Both of these women have made continuing contributions to their own chapters, the Panhellenic Association, and the community.
