I hope your semester here at RPI is winding down nicely! As I’m sure you know already, a degree from Rensselaer is very prestigious. We’re certainly creating a lot of hype about the school. With all of the press we’ve received recently, interest in attending this school is skyrocketing. Just our early decision applications more than doubled this year. Your degree is becoming more and more desirable these days.
“Why is Carlos telling us all of this stuff that we already know?” you ask. Well, the answer is that in the coming months, the Office of Admissions will be looking to all of you for help. We will be starting a new program here at Rensselaer that was previously neglected, and I believe our potential freshmen have suffered from it. I’m speaking of is an overnight hosting program. The goal of this program is to host every accepted “pre-frosh” that comes to RPI for Accepted Students’ Day in April in a residence hall room. That’s the part where you come in. We will need a lot of rooms for incoming students to sleep in. Within the next few days—certainly by the end of finals—an e-mail will be sent out to the entire student body letting you know how to enroll in the program. I’m sure that you remember from your high school experience that in order to see what a college is really like requires visiting classes, talking to students online, and socializing with current students. If you really like it here and want to share your excitement about the school with prospective students, I ask that you sign up for the program when we send out the e-mail.
If you have any questions about the program, feel free to contact myself (gm@rpi.edu) or Jim Nondorf, VP for Enrollment (nondoj@rpi.edu). We’d love to answer your questions. Let’s make this school all it can be by recruiting more awesome students.
With that out of the way, I’d like to take this opportunity to wish you all a happy holiday season. Whether you celebrate Christmas, Chanukah, Kwanzaa, or any other holiday, this really is a special time of year. I always love listening to Christmas music, decorating the tree, and eating lots of cookies. Whatever the tradition though, this is the season of family. As finals come to a close, make sure that you have a safe trip home, and give your folks a great big hug, because there’s nothing more special than your family.
