It has reached that time of year again—the period in which we find ourselves questioning how we will make it through the last stretch. Yet, inevitably, the time passes, and we survive the end of the semester. I look forward to finishing what has become the hardest year of my schooling. It’s crazy to think that another year at RPI has whizzed right by.
In the past three years, I have made many friends with members of the Class of 2006. I have looked up to so many of them as mentors for not only the secrets to fighting the academic battle, but also to help me gain a better perspective on life. I will miss all of your spirit, expertise, and encouragement. I wish you all good luck in everything that you do. Even if you hope to get as far away from Troy as you can, I hope that you don’t forget your alma mater. Whether it is sharing your new experiences in graduate school, recruiting at future career fairs, or coming back to yell, “Clarkson still sucks!” I hope that we hear from you. And if you find that, without all of the homework and extracurricular activities that kept you in over your head at RPI, you have entirely too much time on your hands; I always welcome letters to the editor.
Now, Class of 2007—we have one year left, one year to find our path through life. It’s crazy to think that within a matter of months we will be taking exams with numbers that stand alone, that don’t just act on our GPA. We will be spending endless hours at the Career Development Center, researching more companies than we care to dream of, sending applications to further our educations, and even possibly looking for alternatives that allow us to ignore growing up just a little longer. As I think about this aspect of the upcoming year, part of me hopes this summer will last forever, since it’s intimidating to think of all that is ahead.
Another part of me is excited to come back in the fall, for it is our time to shine. It is our time to show the Rensselaer community our spirit, our diligence, and our passions. We will no longer be lost in the realms of underclassmen. As seniors, we have one last chance to get involved, and make the ’07 presence heard both on and off campus. Let’s be the class that everyone remembers for the most achievements, greatest leadership, and never-fading spirit. Let’s look back in 10 years, and remember senior year as the best year of our lives.
It’s thoughts like this—that it’s almost time for the most exciting times of our lives—that help me make it through the last few weeks of school. I wish everyone good luck on their finals. For all who are returning in the fall, make sure this summer is relaxing, because next year is going to be one crazy year.
