With rush over, greek life is still in full swing. The semester is overwhelmed with a plethora of great events and programs. Along with new services being implemented, the IFC is busily planning for a lucrative end of the semester.

On October 15, the brothers of Lambda Chi Alpha will be hosting a watermelon bash competition, where participating fraternities and sororities compete against one another in a series of individual contests. All proceeds from this event will go towards the Hurricane Katrina Relief Efforts via the Salvation Army in Troy.

On October 22, a new program called Greek 101 is being held on campus to inform new associate members, members, and pledges of a variety of topics about greek life. They include a workshop discussing hazing that will be led by Greek Dean Travis Apgar, as well as workshops involving leadership, interpersonal communication and confrontation, which will all be led by the Archer Center. There will also be a resume building workshop run by the CDC. Attendance is required by all new members and the new member educators from every greek organization on campus.

Just recently, the IFC has started a taxi service to help eliminate the idea of driving drunk whenever a party is held. Along with that, the IFC is currently working with three local Troy bars to set up a “Safe Ride Program” that will involve Capitaland Taxi and Black & White Taxi to give patrons from these bars a ride home. Both of these initiatives are open to all students of RPI. Be on the look out for fundraising tables in the Union, Commons, and in front of Russell Sage Dining Hall.
