As another year draws to a close, students will once again say goodbye to their pencils and books, and enjoy a much-deserved vacation from RPI. But, before we ship off to our respective homes, there’s the small matter of final exams to deal with.
Students handle the end of the academic year in a variety of ways, but one thing you should be sure to do is take a little break and have some fun. Yes, finals are just around the corner, but after pounding the books for the past four months, some recreation can go a long way in making sure you don’t burn out entering finals week. After a fun-filled day or two, you’ll be re-energized and ready to tackle your finals head-on.
The key, however, is to have your fun responsibly. Too often students view study days as Rensselaer’s version of Mardi Gras, where anything goes and no foolish action goes punished. Unfortunately, though, the things you do between now and finals week do have repercussions. If you choose to spend every waking hour from now until Sunday playing beer pong and taking shots of Jäger, chances are you aren’t going to do so well on your IEA final Monday morning. If you, along with some friends, decide to see who can jump the farthest off a flight of stairs, the sling on your left arm might get in the way as you take your Strengths final.
There’s nothing wrong with taking a break and blowing off a little steam over the next couple days, but don’t forget that you do still have final exams to take, and how you do on them could very well determine whether you’re enjoying your summer at home or taking summer classes back in lovely Troy.
