Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow! As the reports of the snow storm hitting the Midwest came in, I began getting very excited. “Hopefully the snow will come our way,” I said to myself.

On Saturday morning, I woke up to a wonderful site; huge snowflakes cascading from above were covering everything they touched in a magical, white blanket.

I immediately jumped out of bed and began to spread the news of the snow storm rolling into town. I mentioned to one of my friends my plan to build an igloo with the newly fallen snow and he responded by saying, “I hate snow!” He was not the first one to make his hatred of the weather clear.

I began asking myself, “How can someone hate snow?” Then I asked myself, “If you hate snow so much, why did you choose a school located in a region that gets sixty inches of snow a year on average?” Snow can be a source of many fun activities.

Need some excitement to add to your boring weekend? Try sledding on a tray on the hill next to RSE. If you are truly a brave soul, head up to one of the hills behind the field house. Don’t want to walk up and down a hill all day sledding? Try making a snow angel, building a snowman, or having a snowball fight. Feel like being a good Samaritan? Grab a shovel, and help a friend dig out their car after it was plowed in. If you really want to act like the true RPI geek that you are, use your engineering skills to build yourself an igloo.

Snow isn’t something that should be looked down upon. Enjoy the snow, and embrace its many possibilities to create “fun.” If you plan on sledding on a tray, please return it after you’re done. Don’t worry; I won’t rat you out for taking one. Remember we’re all poor college students, and snow never asks you for money. Hopefully I will have inspired some of you to stop hiding behind your laptops and get outside to enjoy all the fun the snow can offer.
