I would like to personally invite you to participate in a series of campus events this week.
September 7-11, 2004 promises to be an extraordinary week in Rensselaer’s long and storied history. National leaders in science, technology, education, research, public policy, and business are coming to campus to share their perspectives on some of the most important questions and issues of our time.
Our visitors will join with us in marking Rensselaer’s growing presence in biotechnology, and celebrating the opening of the Center for Biotechnology and Interdisciplinary Studies. They will offer examples of discovery, invention, and commercialization. They will herald a fund-raising campaign designed to enable Rensselaer’s progression into the top rank of the nation’s elite universities.
In the life of a university, even one that is 180 years old, such moments are rare and special. With this in mind, Rensselaer is canceling classes on Friday, September 10, so that you and the entire Rensselaer community can attend the Presidential Colloquy and Ribbon- Cutting for the Center for Biotechnology and Interdisciplinary Studies and celebrate this very special time in the history of our great institution.
The Center for Biotechnology and Interdisciplinary Studies is a state-of-the-art platform for discovery and innovation at the intersection of technology and the life sciences. The facility, which ranks among the world’s most advanced, will house more than 50 principal investigators, and up to 300 additional researchers, collaborating in areas which hold promise for addressing major challenges to human health.
Here, academia will collaborate with industry and government, building multi-agency teams to address the most daunting challenges of our day. Scientists and engineers from across disciplines together will explore the intersection of the life sciences, engineering, and the physical and information sciences, ultimately providing new pathways to healing.
The Colloquy celebrating the opening of this exciting new building is in Academy Hall Auditorium from 8:30 to 10:30 am and the Ribbon Cutting is in the Biotechnology Center 11 am -12:15 pm. Both events are being televised to DCC 308 and to the Mueller Center Lobby.
