The Greek Leader Retreat has really inspired Rensselaer’s greek community to start spring recruitment with renewed vigor. A great deal of pride is felt about greek life and there is a strong desire to promote sororities on campus as well as supress the stereotypes that are predominant in the media today. We are eager to show everyone on campus, and in the community, that there are more to greeks than meets the eye.
A common problem is that many students come to Rensselaer with an idea of what greek life may be—perhaps from what they have seen in movies or on TV. But the truth is that greek life at Rensselaer is much different from other places. Philanthropy and scholarship are just as important as the social aspect of the experience.
During the spring recruitment period, greeks are more visible. Panhel informal recruitment is in full swing, and the sororities are busy encouraging girls to visit the houses and get a taste for greek life. We are all enthusiastic to meet and show them what being greek really means to us. We hope that by visiting the houses they can see that there is more than just a unique social environment awaiting them: there is a family, a way to contribute to the community, and a great support system. There has never been a better time to go greek!
