It’s December and we are all looking at the end of the semester; the end of the year is here, and it’s time to start anew. Ahead of us lies a whole new year, a new semester to prove ourselves to our professors, and a new beginning. At The Polytechnic we have just ended another term of office and we are all starting our new positions. With the start of a new year ahead of us, we look forward to new beginnings with a lot to learn and tell in the upcoming weeks.

With freshmen stepping up onto the editorial board and seniors stepping down, we have new ideas and fresh energy floating about the office. I have taken on the position of Editor in Chief and bring my own plans and enthusiasm to the office. Being a senior myself, I have spent the past three years hearing from students about what they think of The Poly. While in the beginning I didn’t really find many students complaining, over the past semester I have heard from a lot of people. The feedback hasn’t all been positive, but each piece we receive is something valuable that we all want to know.

We are going to attempt to take a new focus: the students here at the Institute. We hope that throughout the upcoming year we will be learning more about what students want to read and what they dislike about what this paper provides for them. As much as The Poly is a representative of its staff in the fact that we all put many sleepless nights into its production, it is also meant to represent the student body, their opinions, and their interests.

In the next year I hope to hear from many of you with criticisms or new ideas: Nothing is too small. Hopefully, even the smallest comment can spark a change that will make our paper stronger while serving our community even better. Feel free to send me your thoughts at poly@rpi.edu. With the old moving out and the new moving in, we want to make this one a strong start and keep the fuel burning.
