As the semester is in full swing for the rest of the student body and the real pressures of school begin to be felt by all, Panhel has started to wind down. Elections are looming around the corner, and excitement for the new cabinet grows.

We still have a few planned events on the agenda. This Thursday, we’ll visit the local Humane Society and help walk dogs and care for the animals for the second week in a row. The Publicity Committee will be releasing a humorous newsletter, full of the kind of gossip and advice often found in Ann Landers’ column.

At the end of the semester, the philanthropy banquet will be held for for both the Interfraternity and Panhellenic Councils. The banquet will be held on November 22 in Russell Sage Dining Hall. Awards will be given for the most community service hours, most money raised for charity, most money raised by a chapter for the Children’s Miracle Network, and two other awards prorated by chapter size. The results of the can tab competition will also be announced. Because of the amount of aluminum in the tab you use to open a soda, the tabs are more valuable than the rest of the can. Greek houses on campus have been collecting them since last spring. The house with the most—in weight, no one will be counting them—will receive a prize. The tabs will then be shipped off to the Shreiners Foundation, which will turn them into wheelchairs.
