Now that we have all surpassed the trials of subzero temperatures, we have finally reached the season of ... wait it’s still winter, and it’s still cold. For those of us who have had to stand outside waiting for a shuttle to pick us up before class, this is something we know for sure.
I have been riding the shuttle system since it started this school year, and in the beginning I was quite satisfied with how it ran. Over time though, the services have slacked a bit. I still leave my house at least a half hour early to wait for the shuttle, as is recommended. The main difference is now while standing at the second lot—directly behind the Field House—I get to watch the corner fill up with at least 25 students, pouring out into the road and starting to block part it. Now this is not the main problem, though it is certainly not a good thing.
In the cold, the group of us stand watching the numerous shuttles drive past us filled with other students, mainly from the first pick-up stop, Stackwyk. The issue is that the timing of the shuttles, and the number of shuttles that are running at about noon, seems to leave many of us out in the cold. Being the fourth stop to pick up students, we usually are met with full buses. I understand that this is a common lunch hour for most companies, which probably is the cause of this problem.
While I understand the need to eat food—I, too, experience this—I also think that the class schedule should be considered. If you consider the way classes run, there is no such thing as a common lunch hour, and most people wait for the bus at about the o’clock. Isn’t it common sense that maybe lunch should be pushed back to 11:30 am or 12:30 pm (if lunch is a half hour) so that the rush on buses at noon is not so bad.
Of course no matter if things change or not, I will most likely stand on that corner accompanied by others watching as the buses pass me by.
